A $37 million ferry terminal upgrade project for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands has started construction.
A construction company has been awarded the contract to build and install the new ferry terminals on the four islands, including Macleay, Russell, Karragarra and Lamb, while a Redland-based company has won the contract to fit out the terminals.
The upgraded terminals will include better amenity including increased seating, drinking fountains, more waiting areas with better weather protection, wider jetties and improved security with lighting and CCTV cameras surveillance.
The project, which will be one of the largest marine infrastructure projects delivered on the bay islands, has been a long time coming – having been in planning since 2014 – and will be welcomed by residents
It is expected works will be completed by 2023.
