A development application has been lodged for a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of the Mount Coot-tha Summit, a popular tourist destination in Brisbane.

It’s a long-awaited project that comes four years after the restaurant on the site closed.

The redevelopment will cover the old Summit restaurant, the neighbouring café and viewing precinct with the aim of optimising the venues and taking better advantage of the spectacular views.

The proposal is to turn the existing café into a two-level dining facility – named The Pavilion – which would include a gin distillery and dining room on the ground floor with a rooftop garden on the top floor.

The old heritage restaurant will also be modernised, and will include a new deck.

The project is expected to take around seven months after approval, with plans to open in the first half of 2024.

If it goes ahead, it would transform this popular destination, which has around 1.5 million visitors each year, and ensure it reaches its full utilisation.
