The Clem Jones Centre in Carina is set to undergo a $9 million redevelopment after a development proposal was lodged for an expansion and revamp, which will require government funding.
The idea is for the Brisbane sports centre, which first opened in 1957, to be transformed into Queensland’s ‘preeminent health and fitness complex” with an array of medical, medical and fitness services, following on from the $5 million revamp of the centre’s gym, which opened in 2018.
The planned four-stage redevelopment would see the addition of 1,672sq m of gross floor area, with site cover of 2,681sq m with features to include a drive-through canteen with shops, office space, child minding, health services and more sporting facilities.
If approved, improvements to this well-known community facility would provide greater amenity to residents of Carina and surrounds, and be a drawcard for future residents, including young first homebuyers.
